Truidian

Payments

Payment processing, matched to how your business gets paid.

Truidian helps businesses evaluate and connect with third-party merchant processors and payment technology providers — for card acceptance, ACH and industry-specific payment needs — and helps businesses assess whether an existing processor still fits. Truidian is not a payment processor; processing services are provided by participating providers.

Payment solutions

How businesses accept and move money.

Card, ACH and the technology around them — and what to consider in each.

Merchant processing

What is merchant processing?

Merchant processing is the service that lets a business accept card payments, moving funds from the cardholder's bank through the card networks to the business's bank account.

A merchant relationship typically involves a processor, a sponsoring acquiring bank and often a gateway or point-of-sale system. Pricing models — interchange-plus, tiered, flat-rate and subscription — affect total cost differently depending on average ticket size, card mix and volume.

Commonly explored when

  • A new business setting up card acceptance
  • An effective rate that has crept up over time
  • Changing point-of-sale, billing or industry software

Card acceptance

How can a business accept card payments?

Businesses accept cards in person at a terminal or point-of-sale system, online through a gateway or checkout, over the phone through a virtual terminal, or through invoices and payment links.

The right setup depends on where and how customers pay. Card-not-present transactions, recurring billing and stored credentials each carry different cost, fraud and compliance considerations, including PCI DSS requirements.

Common setups

  • Counter or field terminals for in-person payments
  • Invoice and payment-link collection for service businesses
  • Recurring billing for retainers, subscriptions and payment plans

ACH

What is ACH payment processing?

ACH processing moves funds electronically between bank accounts through the Automated Clearing House network. It is commonly used for B2B payments, recurring billing and payroll.

ACH generally costs less per transaction than card acceptance for larger payments, but settles more slowly and follows different authorization and return rules. Many businesses offer both.

Commonly explored when

  • Collecting large B2B invoices
  • Recurring billing where cards would be costly
  • Paying vendors and contractors electronically

Payment technology

What payment technology does a business need?

Payment technology is the set of systems around the transaction — gateways, point-of-sale, virtual terminals, invoicing, payment links, recurring billing and integrations with accounting or industry software.

Integration often matters as much as the rate. A provider that connects to the software a business already runs can reduce manual reconciliation and errors.

Industry-specific

Which industries have specialized payment needs?

Some industries have payment requirements that general-purpose processors handle poorly, and the appropriate provider is often a specialist.

Examples

  • Tax and accounting firms collecting preparation and resolution fees, including payment plans
  • Trucking companies paying vendors and collecting from direct shippers
  • B2B companies that need enhanced (Level 2 / Level 3) transaction data
  • Higher-ticket or specialized categories that require dedicated underwriting

Processor review

How do I evaluate or replace my current processor?

Start with the effective rate — total processing fees divided by total processed volume — then review the contract, equipment and how well the processor fits the way your business operates.

What to compare

  • Effective rate and pricing model
  • Contract length and early-termination fees
  • Equipment leases versus owned equipment
  • Funding timing and any reserves
  • Software and accounting integrations
  • Support and chargeback handling
