Payroll & HR

Payroll, PEO and HR support that fits your headcount, not someone else's.

Truidian helps businesses identify and connect with third-party payroll, HR platform, PEO and workforce-management providers. Truidian is not a payroll processor or PEO; these services are provided by participating providers.

Payroll & HR categories

The main types of payroll and HR support.

What fits changes mainly with headcount and complexity — straight payroll, then HR tools, then full PEO co-employment, then dedicated workforce management.

Payroll processing

What should a payroll provider actually handle?

At minimum: calculating pay, withholding and filing payroll taxes, and depositing pay on schedule. Most providers also handle year-end forms (W-2s, 1099s) and direct deposit.

Beyond the basics, providers differentiate on multi-state tax handling, support for tipped or multiple pay-rate employees, integration with time-tracking and accounting software, and how quickly off-cycle or correction runs can be processed.

Commonly explored when

  • Running payroll manually or through a bank is becoming error-prone or time-consuming
  • Hiring across multiple states for the first time
  • Switching accounting software and needing payroll to integrate cleanly

PEO services

What is a PEO, and how is it different from payroll?

A Professional Employer Organization (PEO) co-employs staff with your business, typically bundling payroll with HR administration, benefits and workers’ compensation under one relationship — often with access to larger-group benefit rates.

A standard payroll provider processes pay and taxes but does not take on co-employment or HR liability. A PEO goes further, which usually means a different pricing structure (often per-employee) and a more involved onboarding process.

Commonly explored when

  • Benefits costs are high relative to headcount
  • HR compliance and liability are being handled without dedicated staff
  • The business is scaling headcount quickly and HR work is falling behind

HR platforms

Do I need a separate HR platform if I already use a payroll provider?

Not always. Many payroll providers include basic HR tools — onboarding, document storage, time off. A separate HR platform typically becomes worthwhile once a business needs deeper policy management, performance tracking or compliance workflows.

The decision usually comes down to headcount and complexity: a handful of employees rarely need a dedicated HR platform, while a growing or multi-location team often does.

Commonly explored when

  • Onboarding and documentation are being tracked manually or inconsistently
  • Time-off requests and approvals need a formal process
  • Multiple managers or locations need consistent HR policy enforcement

Workforce management

What does workforce-management software add on top of payroll and HR?

Workforce management covers scheduling, time and attendance tracking, and labor-cost forecasting — tools aimed at controlling labor costs and compliance before payroll is even run.

This is most relevant for businesses with hourly, shift-based or multi-location staff, where scheduling conflicts and labor-cost overruns are a bigger operational risk than payroll accuracy alone.

Commonly explored when

  • Scheduling is done manually across shifts or locations
  • Overtime or labor-cost overruns are a recurring issue
  • Time and attendance data needs to flow directly into payroll

Can Truidian help switch from one payroll provider to another?

Yes. Truidian can help identify participating providers that support migrating payroll history, employee records and tax setup from a previous provider.
